Resume Tips

What are the two most important parts of your resume? Your name and phone number.

A common misconception is that a resume will get you the interview or the job. This only happens when an interviewer ‘cattle calls' every resume on their desk so that they appear busy to their employer. If the interviewer doesn't prioritize their time with you, how can you expect them to match you with the right job?

So, what are the real steps?

1.  You send your resume in response to an advertisement or in hopes of          working for the company.

2.  The resume either does or doesn't get you a phone call.

3.  If it does, it's your turn to shine. The phone call gets you the interview.

4.  The interview-If the company has a one-interview process, then this              interview is to get the job. If the company has a two or more interview              process, the goal is to get another interview.

5.  After the interview:
  • Send a thank-you card.
  • Follow up when you say you will follow up.
  • Ask questions that need answers. If they extend an offer, you want to be prepared to say yes or no, or negotiate.
